Whose Birthday Is It?

** .pdf version available for download Christmas Flyer pdf

Since thousands of years before our Messiah was born, the time of the winter solstice (the shortest day of the year) has been celebrated as the birthday of the Sun God. Known by different names in different cultures – Sol Invictus, Ra, Baal, Tammuz, Molech, Apollo – scripture condemns them all. When our calendars were established, the solstice fell on December 25th.

Take heed to thyself that thou be not snared by following them, after that they be destroyed from before thee: and that thou enquire not after their gods, saying, “How did these nations serve their gods? Even so will I do likewise.” Thou shalt not do so unto Yahweh thy God: for every abomination to Yahweh, which he hateth, have they done unto their gods; for even their sons and their daughters they have burnt in the fire to their gods. What thing so ever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it. Deuteronomy 12:30-32.

Scripture never commands us to celebrate our Messiah’s birth, and certainly not at the time of the winter solstice. That tradition has been “added thereto” by men, in direct violation of God’s instructions. And just in case you thought this “Old Testament” commandment no longer applies, the warning is repeated in the New Testament.

Howbeit then, when ye knew not God, ye did service unto them which by nature are no gods. But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage? Ye observe days, and months, and times, and years. I am afraid of you, lest I have bestowed upon you labour in vain. Galatians 4:8-11

Paul wrote these words to new believers in the Roman province of Galatia. After leaving their pagan ways for faith in Yahweh and Yahshua the Messiah (commonly called Jesus), they were slipping back into their old traditions – like observing Saturnalia, the birthday of the sun god, celebrated at the winter solstice – December 25th. Paul warns this puts salvation at risk!

But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils. Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord’s table, and of the table of devils. Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than He? 1 Corinthians 10:20-22

Today’s “Christmas” evolved from the same traditions Paul warned against in Rome, and is descended from the same false worship Elijah preached against even long before that…

And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, “How long halt ye between two opinions? If Yahweh be God, follow Him: but if Baal (the Sun God), follow him.” And the people answered him not a word. 1 Kings 18:21

But could Paul be right? Could Christians really lose their salvation over something like this? Isn’t “believing” enough?

Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. Matthew 7:21-23

The Greek word translated “iniquity” is “anomia”, and it has a very specific meaning – “without Torah (God’s law)”. Those professing faith in Jesus but not following His commandments will be told to depart from Him. It’s a common theme in scripture, which many churches somehow miss…

Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition. Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying, This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. Matthew 15:6b-9

Worship “in vain” is worthless, fruitless… it leads to death.

Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus. Revelation 14:12

Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie. Revelation 22:14-15

Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny are lies. Scripture says that if you choose them over doing His commandments, you won’t enter His kingdom. But which commandments? All of them!!!

Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:17-19

Heaven and earth are still here. So are God’s laws. They remain the standard that defines sin.

Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. 1 John 3:4

Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. Colossians 2:8,9

What about the Roman (Babylonian Sun-worship) holidays, and the idea that we no longer have to obey God’s commandments, because we are “under grace”?

O Yahweh, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles shall come unto thee from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things wherein there is no profit. Jeremiah 16:19

The three most recognizable aspects of modern “Christianity” – Easter, Christmas, and Sun-day worship – all stem from this same pagan influence. Scripture refers to this corrupt system as Babylon, because that’s where sun worship originated. Yahweh urges us, like Abraham, to come out from that influence, and to worship Him in spirit and in truth.

And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues. For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities. Revelation 18:4-5.

You will be held responsible both for what you believe, and for what you do. Learn the truth.

Read the Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments. Pray that Yahweh opens your mind, and gives you an understanding mind and an obedient heart.

Find a fellowship that keeps the Commandments, the seventh-day Sabbath, and Yahweh’s Feasts found in Leviticus 23. You’d be welcome at ours – New Birth Worship Center, 216 Eastern Avenue, Lexington KY. Classes are at 7PM Wednesday and Noon Saturday; Services at 2PM Saturday.

What is SabbathSLexington.com?

SabbathSLexington.com was created to bring together people who desire to learn about and worship on God’s Sabbaths. We offer you the opportunity to build a lasting intimate relationship with the God of the Bible by exploring scriptural truths.

Why is SabbathS plural?

In addition to the seventh day Sabbath (commonly called Saturday), God’s Feasts are also Sabbaths. These are explained in Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy.

That’s the Old Testament. Are the Seventh Day Sabbath and the Feasts still relevant today?

When God explained the Feasts, he used terms like “everlasting covenant”, “a statute forever”, “throughout your generations”, and “wherever you live”. Jesus observed both the seventh day Sabbath and the Feasts, and taught his disciples to do the same. In Acts 15, the early church leaders wrote to new Gentile believers, and told them to study Moses (the Old Testament writings, including the Feasts) on the Sabbath! Each of the Sabbaths is prophetic, pointing directly to our Messiah, and God’s plan for our redemption. If we ignore God’s Sabbaths, not only do we disobey Him, we miss the lessons He has prepared for us!

What are you hoping to accomplish?

We’re looking for people to worship, learn, and serve with us. Help establish the organization – we need team members interested in thoroughly learning of Gods Sabbaths. Today’s students will grow into tomorrow’s teachers and leaders. Come as you are, and you don’t need to bring anything – we’re open to anyone with a love of God and other people.

When and where do we meet?

Most meetings are held at 216 Eastern Avenue, Lexington KY 40508.

We typically meet on Wednesdays at 7PM and on the Sabbath (Saturday) at Noon. Please call (859) 519-9341 or send an email to messengerjjj@aol.com to confirm the meeting schedule and location.

Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made. – Genesis 2:1-3

Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. – Exodus 20:8-11

And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the LORD that doth sanctify you. – Exodus 31:12-13

And I gave them my statutes, and shewed them my judgments, which if a man do, he shall even live in them. Moreover also I gave them my sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am the LORD that sanctify them. – Ezekiel 20:11-12.
